Harvard's Guidelines Around Political Activities

As we approach a very important election year, we ask our colleagues across the university to familiarize themselves with the university’s guidelines around political activities, such as holding campaign events on campus, fundraising, and individual political advocacy . There is specific language on the Office of the General Counsel’s website that details what is and is not permitted under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the conditions of which Harvard must satisfy in order to preserve and retain its status as a tax-exempt organization. Please click here to view the guidelines from the Office of the General Counsel regarding political activities on campus (Harvard Key login required).

We invite you to also take this opportunity to review our office’s guidelines for inviting and hosting heads of state, dignitaries, and other high-profile visitors to campus.
