October 2, 2011

Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, visited Harvard for two days of events co-sponsored by the Harvard Divinity School and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. His Eminence enjoyed brunch with Harvard undergraduates in Lowell House, an event hosted by the Harvard Foundation, and also participated in a panel discussion, "Muslim Women's Religious Literacy: The Legacy of Nana Asma'u in the Twenty-first Century and Beyond," sponsored by the Women's Studies in Religion Program. The visit also included a tour of Harvard Yard and Widener Library, as well as a "Nigeria and the World" seminar led by Jacob Olupona, Professor of African and African American Studies and African Religious Traditions.
